People are involved in all sorts of relationships-internet-based relationships, long-distance relationships, or regular relationships, where the parties involved live close to one another and go on regular dates. As the popularity of the internet has grown, so has the idea of long distance relationships. Where before long distance relationships took place via phone and snail mail, the vast majority of long distance relationships now take place on the internet in the form of internet relationships. A lot of these relationships begin when two people meet in chat rooms or on MySpace and fall in love.

Many people wonder if long distance relationships can work out. The fact is, many such relationships don't due to the lack of contact between the involved parties. However, some couples have overcome the odds and made their long distance relationship work.

How do they make their relationships work? Well, they make every effort to regularly meet up in person and talk often on the phone. It's hard maintaining a relationship with someone who isn't there with you, which is why meeting up in person as often as possible is so important. No matter how much chatting you do on the internet with your boyfriend/girlfriend, it cannot replace quality face to face time.

How often should the two of you meet up? It depends on where you live and what your schedules are like. If you live within a few hours of one another, make the effort to meet up every weekend. If you live far apart, try to meet up once or twice a month. This might not be possible for you, but regularly spending time in person with your boyfriend/girl is the key to successfully maintaining romantic relationships.
